Pearl was teary-eyed in his apology, saying he made a mistake in misleading the investigators.
The Tennessee men's basketball program has had plenty of off-the-court issues over the course of the past few years. From arrests to suspensions to dismissals, Tennessee has continued to move forward, making their first appearance in the Elite 8 in school history this past season.
And, Bruce Pearl has been there leading the way.
Pearl has worked hard his entire coaching career, working his way up to Tennessee through success at previous schools.
Tennessee athletic director, Mike Hamilton says the troubles in the Tennessee men's basketball must end, and now the NCAA is getting involved.
The most recent news explains that Bruce Pearl has accepted self-imposed sanctions from the university. Tennessee has cut Pearl's pay by 1.5 million dollars over a five year period, as well as, preventing him from participating in off-campus recruiting for a full year. The pay of his assistants was also cut.
The self-imposed sanctions are a first step of punishment issued, but Hamilton has said he is happy to have Pearl as their head men's basketball coach.
As the Vols will move forward the question will remain whether or not Tennessee's recruiting will take a hit as a result of the self-imposed sanctions and NCAA investigation.
