Greg McDermott and Creighton Snag a Pair of 2011 Commitments

Posted by CoHoops Paul Seaver

The Missouri Valley Conference is nothing new to new Creighton head coach Greg McDermott.

McDermott was hired to replace Dana Altman at Creighton who took the head coaching job at Oregon, however, this is not the first stint in the MVC for McDermott.

The former head coach at Northern Iowa led the Panthers to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances before taking the job at Iowa State for the past four seasons, where we had hardly anything but success.

McDermott is now back in the MVC at the helm of the Creighton Blue Jays and over the course of the last week he has picked up his first two commitments as head coach from the class of 2011.

6-foot-5 swing man Avery Dingman joins 6-foot-11 big man Geoffrey Groselle as the first two members of the class. Dingman is from Missouri and Groselle is from Texas, so its clear McDermott has continued to target the area he knows best in terms of recruiting.

Creighton will look to build on an 18-16 season overall and a fourth place finish in the MVC. McDermott is a proven winner in the conference, but can he win again, this time at Creighton? If so, he took two steps in the right directions with the Dingman and Groselle commitments.
