2011 Recruits Belfield, Atkins, Bourne Make Their Calls

Posted by CoHoops Paul Seaver

Three east coast guys are off the board from the class of 2011, each of their decisions ranging from the ACC to the Big South to the Southern Conference.

North Carolina native Keith Belfield will head to the Southern Conference after giving his verbal commitment to Furman on Friday. The wing man from Davidson, North Carolina joins Jordan Loyd in Furman's class of 2011.

Belfield's decision to play for the Paladins was decided over the likes of Davidson and Liberty.

Moving slightly north to the state of Virginia, Arlington native and 6-foot-6 power forward James Bourne is headed to Winthrop. Bourne, a slightly undersized PF has tremendous aggressiveness and should be a great addition to the Eagles.

He will join Florida guard Andre Smith at Winthrop in the class 2011.

Maryland native, Darion Atkins also also made his collegiate decision and he is headed to the ACC. Atkins informed the University of Virginia of his intentions to become a Cavalier in 2011.

The 6-foot-8 power forward is considered the 38th best prospect at his position and settled on Virginia after receiving attention from Notre Dame, Maryland, George Mason, and VCU.

Virginia head coach Tony Bennett has begun to string together a pretty solid recruiting class for 2011. Alongside Atkins, Bennett will also bring in Paul Jesperson and Malcolm Brogdon.
