As the month of September begins to dwindle down, both Marshall and Robert Morris hold two similarities. They both have new head coaches heading into the season and both of them have scored their first recruits from the class of 2011.
Marshall and head coach Tom Herrion picked up the verbal commitment from DeVince Boykins. Boykins a 6-foot-3 guard out of North Carolina will join the Thundering Herd in 2011. He becomes the first addition by Herrion since taking over for Donnie Jones, who left for Central Florida.
Boykins had a number of offers from high-major schools, including the likes of Miami (FL), Marquette, and South Carolina. A tough, physical guard who has no problem penetrating the paint and scoring the basketball, should be a great addition to a program who has not made the NCAA Tournament since 1987.
David Appolon, an in-state Pennsylvania native has verbally committed to Robert Morris. Appolon reigns from Philadelphia and had been considering a number of mid-to-low majors, among them included Marist, George Washington, Long Island, Delaware, Mount St. Mary's, and Austin Peay.
