Maryland Terrapins Head Coach Gary Williams Inducted Into Hall of Legends

Posted by CoHoops DeAnte Mitchell

Before beginning his coaching career with the Maryland Terrapins, Head Coach Gary Williams played point guard for the program. By all means, Williams was a good athlete, but a better coach.

His coaching career for Maryland started in 1989, and is still active today. The NCAA sanctions that occurred during his early years coaching the program put his rebuilding efforts on hold.

However, since then Coach Williams has had Maryland rocking in the national spotlight.

Since being acquired, the Terps' have been present in 14 NCAA tournaments, seven sweet sixteen's, two elite eights, along with Final Four appearances, and one National Championship.

Not to mention, his 442 wins stands as the most wins for any Head Coach in Maryland basketball history.

Coach Williams' induction is well deserved and as he begins his 18th season with the Terps' he can continue on a historic career.

He lost his key contributor in Grevis Vasquez, but lured in a decent recruiting class that can continue success in the ACC.
