The conference wasn't dominanted by the Seawolves as Vermont came runner up at 12-4, while Maine and Boston University came next with an 11-5 record.
The upcoming season in the American East should be interesting as long as Stony Brook, and Maine live up to expectations.
Team to beat: Stony Brook Seawolves
The Seawolves returned three starters and reserved talents Chris Martin and Dallis Joyner. Not to mention, the Seawolves added recruits Anthony Jackson, and David Coley to bolster in the backcourt.
With that said, the Seawolves grasp the chance to win the conference regular season title once again. Stony Brook has experience, talent, and athletic forwards in the post.
Head Coach Steve Pikiell and his Seawolves will have the chance to grasp the regular season title, and possible American East Coach of the Year awars once again. They open their season playing on ESPN, what better way to ruin their season by slowing down the talented power.
Team to watch: Maine Black Bears
Last year, the Maine Black Bears with a 11-5 record beating the regular season champions by six at home. This season, I presume they will do the same thing when ESPNU comes to town.
The Black Bears retained every special part of their offense. The Black Bears returned 4-of-5 starters, and third leading scorer Terrance Mitchell.
Maine has one freshman on their 12-man roster, and the rest are experienced players that will effect the program tremendously.
Stony Brook may be the reigning champs, but Maine may steal their shine in 2011.
Sleeper team: Hartford Hawks
The Hartford Hawks are coming off a rough 6-10 conference record, and 8-22 overall. Not to mention, the Hawks have a new Head Coach in John Gallagher. Despite that, the Hawks return all of their starters and important bench players for depth.
Leading scorer from a year ago, Joe Zeglinski will continue to lead the Hawks in the right direction. Despite the struggles last season, I assume the Hawks will fly high with the experienced players that returned.
