Collegiate Hoops: 2010 NBA Draft; The Impact of the Sixers-Kings Trade

The NBA draft is just around the corner. There are many teams looking to trade up, or down in efforts to still increase their roster. This sets up a jam-packed 2010 NBA draft.

About an hour ago, it was reported that the Sixers’ traded Samuel Dalembert to the Sacramento Kings for F Andres Nocioni and F-C Spencer Hawes.

That is great to witness the Sixers finally making moves towards their rebuilding stage, but this little trade has a huge impact on the NBA draft.

The Sixers are in need of anything they can get. They were look at to select Evan Turner No. 2 overall and have him play besides Andre Igoudala in Philly.

I even speculated that if Turner came to Philly the Sixers would ship Igoudala and bolster their frontcourt for Turner.

However, this trade has me considering otherwise.

The Sixers’ grab a wing and frontier player in exchange for Dalembert.
Meaning, they could go after Derrick Favors’ and start him right away.

Although, you cannot sleep on Turner still be favored No. 2 overall. He is the National Player of the Year in college basketball. Not to mention, he is the most NBA ready player in this draft.

I think Turner is still in the mix for the No. 2 pick even though it’s apparent that the Sixers want to bolster their frontcourt.

With the Kings, their main concern this off-season was getting size in the post.

They looked at prospects Greg Monroe and DeMarcus Cousins’ as serious inquiries but since the trade I think they’ll still be sitting when the Kings reveal their first round selection.

As a result, the Kings can now look at the wing position with Wesley Johnson, Luke Babbitt or other top wing players in the draft.

The Kings still might go big, but the gamble of them acquiring another forward this early in the draft is slim.
