2010-11' College Hoops: Ranking The Top Five Point Guards

There are a lot of College Basketball teams that produce some of the better defenses in the nation.

Some teams don't stand a chance. However, some teams reserve point guards that are good enough to break any defense; or at least handle it.

So I'm guessing you can assume how to survive the vigorous challenges posed by College Basketball. You need a great point guard with the mindset to lead his team to victory.

I can think of a ton of players that will poise a great point guards heading into next season, but these five stick out.

Every player named, I assume, will be leading their respective teams headed into March Madness.

Here is a look at the top five point guards headed into next season.

Jimmer Fredette, BYU
Fredette will have a great season. He is a 6-foot-2 guard that fits the shooting guard descriptions but with an extra year of College Basketball he's going to learn point guard tactics. Fredette ended last season with a disappointing performance against Kansas State. However, the game before that he scored 37 points in a thrilling overtime victory. Following last season, Fredette is considered one of the most explosive guards by Yahoo Rivals and Dick Vitale is prepping for a big year.

Demetri McCamey, ILL
McCamey returning was one of the biggest things he could do for his career. Talk about a guy that led his team over straight ranked opponents and gave his all against Evan Turner's Buckeyes. Not to mention, his 7.1 assist per game ranked atop of the nation. McCamey with an extra year will clean up his decision making. He has great vision and passing skills. However, the way he forces things resulted in 3.4 turnovers a game.

Jacob Pullen, KSU
If the nation is behind any player, it's senior-to-be Jacob Pullen. Pullen is a 6-foot-1 guard that led the Wildcats to an Elite Eight berth. Not to mention, he is the best defensive guard on this list. He has shown great defense and offense. He plays with energy on both ends of the court. His return solidified the Wildcats as a top-five team. Pullen and the Wildcats are pumped up about next season's challenges.

Kalin Lucas, MSU
Lucas means so much for the Spartans. Yes, they made the Final Four without him; however, with him they could have won the game. The Spartans turned the ball over 16 times against Butler. With Lucas on the floor, that total would have been cut in half. Now, with Lucas returning after injuring himself, the Spartans are top-three talent. Lucas leadership is needed for Michigan State to be successful.

Malcolm Delaney, VT
Delaney is the best overall guard in the country. Delaney last season averaged 20.2 points, 4.5 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals. Delaney does just about everything right. He scores the basketball, can rebound, get into the passing lane and make his teammates better. Delaney will mean a lot to the Hokies this season. With every player returning, they'll have a chance to surprise the nation as a basketball powerhouse.
