Jalen James, a 2013 point guard from Chicago Hope Adacemy in Illinois, gave a verbal commitment to the Fighting Illini and head coach Bruce Weber.
James, considered one of the top upcoming guards in the class of 2013 has heard from many schools across the country and received offers from Baylor and Cleveland State on top of the Illinois offer.
"Other colleges can offer me," James told HeardthisBlog. "But right now, I'm committed to the University of Illinois."
"The plan was, the scholarship was there and he told me to call him when I was ready to make a decision. I made the choice to commit to Illinois."
James gives Weber his first commitment in 2013 and a chance to build around the talented lead guard.
