College Basketball Recruiting: Kyle Caudill Commits to Boston College

Steve Donahue picked up his third commitment from the class of 2011.

Yesterday, August 9th, Kyle Caudill committed to the Eagles, joining the likes of Eddie Odio and Dennis Clifford among the others in the Boston College recruiting class for 2011.

Caudill, a powerful 6-foot-10, 260lbs center reigns from Brea, California and is considered the 22nd ranked center by scout.com.

After three transfers since Donahue took over as the new head coach in Chestnut Hill, he has begun to piece together future replacements. Caudill, alongside Clifford gives them two big men to help rebuild the front court.

For the Eagles, their four tallest players all enter their senior seasons in 2010-2011. Courtney Dunn, Josh Southern, Joe Trapani, and Corey Raji, all graduate following this season. Donahue has begun to work towards their replacements with the commitments of Clifford, and now Caudill.

A big inside threat at 260lbs, Caudill has great skills around the rim and his size and strength can help make up for his lack of speed and quickness.

2011 College Basketball Recruiting Report: Boston College Eagles

Its been quite the shake-up for the Boston College Eagles' roster during this off season.

Boston College fired former head coach Al Skinner and eventually found a replacement in the Ivy League's hottest coach, Steve Donahue. Donahue guided Cornell to the Sweet 16 this past season, but now has his work cut out for him in Chestnut Hill.

Boston College lost all of its 2010 commitments including guard Brady Heslip, who joined the team halfway through the past season. Heslip, alongside athletic junior Rakim Sanders and sophomore Evan Ravenel, all decided to transfer following the switch at head coach.

Working with what he has right now, Donahue has hit the recruiting trail right away, adding commitments from two 2011 recruits already.

Here's a look at the 2011 commitments, as well as others who have shown interest in the Eagles:

Commitments:

Dennis Clifford, 6'10" C (Milton Academy, Milton, MA): Clifford was the first commitment for Donahue at Boston College. A solid big man, who continues to get stronger and more physical, considered other New England regional schools such as Boston Univ., Vermont, UMass, and Yale, before finally settling with the Eagles. ESPN ranks him as the 43rd center in the 2011 recruiting class.

Eddie Odio, 6'6" SF (Christopher Columbus H.S., Miami, FL): Odio is an improving shooter who hopefully will be able to step in and contribute on the wing when he joins the Eagles in 2011. He is ranked as the 124th small forward in the class of 2011 according to ESPN.

Considering:

Naadir Tharpe: Tharpe committed to Providence, but backed out recently. Tharpe is a Massachusetts native and one of the top point guards in the class of 2011.

Tyler Harris: The younger brother of Tennessee commitment Tobias Harris, Tyler is considered an ESPNU Top 100 recruit, the Eagles are among the interested teams for the New York native.

Derrick Wilson: Wilson is a power guard who can attack the rim, an Alaska native, who has shown interest in the other side of the country.

Henry Brooks: Brooks is a skilled, face-up power forward who is considering Boston College, Penn State, Harvard, and Penn.

Blaise Mbargorba: Mbargorba has only played in the U.S. for one year, but has drawn interest from ACC and Big East schools.

Zach Auguste: Auguste has plenty of potential, but may be considered raw. A Massachusetts native has both the Eagles and UMass on his list.

Darren Hilliard: A lefty, shooting-guard has interest from a few Atlantic 10 schools, but the Eagles are intrigued as well.

Collegiate Hoops: Boston College 2010-11'' Season Preview

2009-10 Record: 15-16
2009-10 ACC Record: 6-10


The Boston College Eagles underachieved this year. Statistically speaking, they weren't able to put enough points up on the board to win ball games.


Not to mention, they participated in a lot of games that could have went there way and improved their conference or overall record.


On top of that, outside of their main contributors came no bench production


This upcoming season should not peaceful if you're a Boston College fan.


Key Returnees:


The Boston College Eagles returned three of their top scorers from last season.


With the inside-out duo of Reggie Jackson and Joe Trapani, I can foresee a great run this season. 


The Eagles brought back leadership, rebounding, and scoring. Corey Raji needs to be a big time player next season. 


Raji has the ability to get you scoring on the block as well as rebounding the ball on both ends of the court. Raji will be the x-factor. The Eagles will need his all-around production to succeed.


Key Departures:


The Eagles lost a lot this season. They lost Tyler Roche the 6-foot-7 forward that gave them 7.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.


This wasn't a huge loss, but the lack of production off the bench makes this big.


Also, during the off-season forward Evan Ravenel decided his Boston College career was over and transferred to the Ohio State Buckeyes'.


This once again, is a big move because of bench production. He didn't get a lot of minutes but was still able to impress some with his potential in the post.


These two aren't huge losses, but they do hurt the Eagles bench production.


However, Rakim Sanders and Brady Heslip decided to transfer because of new coach Steve Donahue.


This is a huge loss for the Eagles. Sanders was one of their big time players on the block. He grabbed rebounds consistently and scored.


The lost of a superstar player like Sanders puts a major dent in the frontcourt for the Eagles. 


Key Additions:


The Boston College Eagles need some production off the bench. During last season they were unable to get consistent scoring and rebounding off the bench, which resulted in such a bad record.


However, the Eagles did not go out and recruit any players. They still have holes to fill on the offense and the outlook is not looking so good.


Prediction:


A lot of ACC teams are starting to load their roster. You have Harrison Barnes at North Carolina. 


Duke has a great deal of talent and has a chance to repeat. However, I can't still see the Eagles finishing in the top half of the ACC.


With no recruits, the Eagles are facing the same problem as they did last year--but worst. They are losing three key contributors and a great player in the frontcourt. To fix that, they're not adding any new young talent.


The Eagles season looked to be bright before all the transferred happened and now they are in a sticky situation.


They might share a similar season as last, but making a 500-record will be the best they can do.
