College Basketball Rumors: Will Seth Curry Be Starting For Duke?

After playing great at Liberty University, Seth Curry, who is mostly known as Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry's little brother, transferred to Duke.

He had to sit out a year, watching his team win the National Championship over Gordon Hayward and the Butler Bulldogs. Curry watched from the sidelines while learning the do's and don'ts of Duke Basketball.

Over the course of next season, Curry will learn a lot from Coach K.

But the big question is, will Curry start?

After averaging 20.2 points per game for Liberty in the division of the Big South, Curry is going to find it much more difficult entering a tougher conference, alongside a tougher team to earn a starting spot.

But many of the players on the Blue Devils' roster like Curry and his skills.

"He's real solid, and he can shoot," Duke center Mason Plumlee told the Charlotte Observer. "Obviously, right away, we could see why he was the leading scorer as a freshman in college (at Liberty). Seth is the real deal."

Nolan Smith, who is a senior, will most likely start while Andre Dawkins is rising.

But with Curry in the line-up, the Blue Devils will have a strong core of guards that seem scary.

They would have Kyrie Irving running the point, Curry at the shooting guard spot, Smith at small forward, and Kyle Singler meanwhile at power forward.

Here is what ESPN's Jay Bilas said in a SportsNation chat on ESPN.com:

“It would not surprise me if Seth were to start. He can really shoot it, and he has good size. Usually, kids look great at redshirts because they have no skin in the game, but Seth will be a valued contributor next season. With Kyrie Irving running the point and Nolan Smith as a senior, there will be a lot of open shots for Curry.”

Ekpe Udoh was the spark to Baylor's frontcourt this season. Anything you wanted in a defensive forward Udoh did it.

He was very defensive at Baylor. Regardless the size Udoh was the spark you needed in your post. One-on-one Udoh slides his feet well in the post and keeps his defender in front him.

He has great shot-blocking skills. He alters’ attempts and he rarely let's anything come into the post easy. His timing and instincts on defense only makes him a greater defensive presence. His 6'10'', 240-pound frame will help this translate well into the NBA.

Not to mention, he has a 7'5" wingspan which allows him to challenge big men at the next level.

On offense, his game isn't that advanced. He displays good footwork with his post work but it still needs to be improved. He does have the ability to face up on the defender and attack the basket.

By the way, he plays above the rim.

He can also work outside the paint. He can hit those mid-range and turnaround jumpers outside the post area.

In the pros he will most likely played at both the forward and center position which shows you how versatile he can be.

Analysis:


The Warriors needed size in their frontcourt and that's what they got. Udoh is a great prospect with the ability to be big time at the next level. He can step outside and hit jumpers, as well as work his way inside and create a mix-match.

The Impact Of The Warriors, Bucks Trade

This upcoming draft will be exciting, full of surprises and the turning point for many franchises. There are a lot of teams that may be thinking trade come draft day.

As of now, the Warriors are selecting No. 6 and the Bucks are at No. 15. 

The Warriors needed a wing threat to go with their talented backcourt. 

The Warriors have been conceived to take Al-Farouq Aminu with the No. 6 selection in the NBA draft. This is starting to look more evident seeing that the Warriors got rid of Corey Maggette their wing threat, for C-Dan Gadzuric and G-Charlie Bell.

The Bucks main concern was grabbing a consistent player for the wing. They have a good inside-out duo with Brandon Jennings and Andrew Bogut but with Michael Redd battling injuries, the Bucks were looking for a second-option on offense.

They had their eyes on Gordon Hayward for some time. He could bring versatility to the wing. Not only can he shoot lights-out at the next level, he can post up defenders and score on the low-block. Not to mention, he has the ability to lead a team and that was on display in this year’s NCAA tournament.

But after this trade, I believe they're looking to take Avery Bradley with this pick.

Bradley is very similar to Redd in many ways. But in my opinion, he is a much better version than him. He doesn't have the size to play the shooting guard position, but he does have the athleticism and heart. 

He has one of the best vertical jumps in this class. Along with that, he is equipped with a deadly jumper and the ability to score the basketball in many ways.

Placing Bradley beside Jennings in the backcourt could set up a better version of the Stephen Curry, Monta Ellis duo at Golden State.

Breaking News: The Warriors and Bucks Edition

It is reported that the Bucks' and Warriors agreed to a trade that sent Corey Maggette in exchange for Dan Gadzuric and Charlie Bell.

This may open the door for Al-Farouq Aminu to be selected with the sixth pick in the NBA draft. This also will keep Anthony Randolph at Golden State.
